Boris Becker, Djokovic’s coach, could be seen sitting in the stands in that Cincinnati final looking at first bemused and then downright disgusted by what he was witnessing.
After Federer again unfurled the shot en route to a straight sets win over Richard Gasquet in their quarter-final on Thursday, Becker made his feelings clear on Sky Sports.
“It’s almost disrespecting the other guy's serve,” the German complained. “If he would have played a [John] McEnroe, [Jimmy] Connors, [Ivan] Lendl or even me, we would have said: ‘Roger, in all honesty I like you very much [but] I'll go straight at you’. In my generation guys would not have accepted as it is now.”
