Abstract

Unconventional therapies are medicines based on a holistic approach to the veterinarian-pet-owner relationship. They can be complementary or alternative. Although they do not meet the principles of Western medicine, they have been used as treatment or for prevention for a long time. Initial assessments, based on basic data, indicate that three of these therapies (herbal medicine, acupuncture and osteopathy) work to some degree. Each of these therapies has advantages and limitations but can be used for certain applications in daily practice. They are promising therapies for future use in practice.
