Call for Research Associates
CRIAW/ICREF is undertaking an initiative to involve you in our work. We invite applications for CRIAW/ICREF Research Associates.Research Associates are individual members of CRIAW/ICREF who are conducting research related to CRIAW/ICREF’s mandate to advance social justice and equality for all women. Research Associates want to have a formal relationship with CRIAW/ICREF. These researchers will be based in diverse settings: in community organisations, universities, NGOs, unions or working individually. Research Associates do not receive any salary but there are other benefits as listed below. When possible, CRIAW/ICREF Research Associates will have access to space or computers at CRIAW/ICREF offices. Research Associates can be located anywhere in Canada. Research Associates are appointed for an initial three-year term, which may be renewed.
The purpose of Research Associates is to expand the research capacity of CRIAW/ICREF, to extend the network of researchers engaged with CRIAW/ICREF, and to create and enhance communities of mutual support among feminist researchers.
CRIAW/ICREF especially encourages applications for Research Associates from emerging researchers and researchers from groups that have often been rendered invisible in research; including, but not limited to, young women, indigenous women, women with disabilities, recent immigrant women, racialized women and women from sexualized minorities.
Applications are welcome by email to info@criaw-icref.ca with Research Associates in the subject line, no later than February 1, 2016.
Criteria:
- Applicant must be an individual member of CRIAW/ICREF in good standing at the time of the application.
- Applications may be submitted in either French or English.
- Research Associates will contribute reports on their research annually to the Research and Action Committee of CRIAW/ICREF, and develop a knowledge product (such as a FactSheet, a short synopsis of research findings, or an in depth contribution to our Research blogs) for distribution through CRIAW/ICREF’s networks.
- Applications will include:
- a short description of the proposed research project ,including a knowledge mobilization plan and projected outcomes and results (3-5 pages). This description should also include whether the applicant is applying for funding for the project, whether CRIAW/ICREF is being asked to be a partner in this application and any responsibilities and/or benefits CRIAW/ICREF is being asked to assume in the funding application;
- a summary of the applicant’s previous research experiences, including a list of any publications (2-3 pages);
- a statement of interest that illustrates what the applicant hopes to gain from a relationship with CRIAW/ICREF and what she hopes to contribute to CRIAW/ICREF (2 pages)
- a cover letter indicating how the proposed research fits with the mandate of CRIAW/ICREF, an indication of whether the applicant is an emerging researcher, or a member of a group often marginalized or made invisible in research, and an indication of whether the applicant is interested in being in a mentoring relationship with another/other CRIAW/ICREF member(s)
Research Associate status with CRIAW/ICREF comes with a number of benefits including:
- Affiliation with a well-established, dynamic, bilingual, national research institute devoted to research related to women, with bridges between community and university-based researchers as well as partnerships with other social justice organizations.
- Publication of research results in CRIAW/ICREF newsletter, blog or as a separate publication, and peer review through CRIAW/ICREF publications committee.
- Distribution of research through CRIAW/ICREF’s bilingual national webpage.
- Opportunity for engaging in mentoring relationships with other CRIAW/ICREF research associates and members
Research Associate status with CRIAW/ICREF comes with the expectation of contributing to the work of CRIAW/ICREF in some of the following ways:
- Seek partnerships with faculty and community groups for research projects;
- Involve students and/or community groups in CRIAW/ICREF projects and activities;
- Provide a research or community education placement for students;
- Acknowledge CRIAW/ICREF in any research reports or publications undertaken in collaboration with CRIAW/ICREF;
- Participate in CRIAW/ICREF events, activities and projects;
- Remain a CRIAW/ICREF member at least throughout the tenure as Research Associate; and
- Share information about CRIAW/ICREF within networks.
