Research Resident


Description
The role is a 1.75 year -year residency program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. There is one position available, and the residency starts in January 2016.
Key duties of the CCNM Research Resident will include:
  • Facilitating and coordinating clinical trial conduct
  • Being a teaching assistant for Research 100 and other courses
  • Assisting in the conduct and development of clinical research at the satellite clinics
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Director, Research or Associate Director, Research including grant proposal development and publication writing for peer review at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic (RSNC) and at satellite clinics
  • Assisting in the clinical training and supervision of interns at the RSNC and at satellite clinics
  • Delivering public lectures on naturopathic medicine
  • Completing a research project (e.g. publishing one case report) by the end of each residency year
  • Develop and maintain a private clinical practice (4 hours/week in the first year)
Each CCNM Research Resident will be mentored by a member of the faculty and will be included in the faculty development days. Residents will be assisted with the development of their clinical, teaching and research skills. Each Resident must cooperate fully with the College’s health & safety awareness program.
Qualifications
The Resident must be a graduate of a CNME approved college, and be registered with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario. The Research Resident should possess research ability or experience, a high level of diagnostic and therapeutic skills, communication skills, teaching, and some administrative experience.
Scope of Practice 
Residents will be practicing under the policies, standards and guidelines defined by the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO) in the province of Ontario. CONO regulates its naturopathic doctors in the following therapies:
  • Acupuncture and Asian medicine
  • Botanical medicine
  • Clinical nutrition
  • Homeopathy
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Naturopathic manipulation and physical medicine
  • Prevention and lifestyle counseling

To obtain licensure for the above scope of practice, Ontario requires the successful completion of the NPLEX homeopathy and acupuncture add-on examinations, as well as practical examinations in acupuncture, physical examination and instrumentation, and manipulation.  These practical examinations are offered in Ontario concurrent with the NPLEX examinations in August and January.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Base salary of $36,077.60
  • One private 4-hour clinic shift per week with the approval of the Dean for Year 1
