Make our planet great again

1. Overview: Faculty positions, chairs and PhD programs

Reaching at least the 2°C target set by the Paris Agreement requires an unprecedented effort in developing science and technologies.
The scientific and technological challenges are particularly daunting in the following areas:
  • Climate change: Monitoring, understanding, modeling and simulation, mitigation and social consequences
  • Earth system: Observation and preservation of the environment and ecosystems
  • Energy transition: Renewable energies, innovative zero carbon energy sources, energy storage, smart energy management systems, hydrogen vector, carbon storage, electrification of vehicles as well as human and social sciences to understand, accompany or open options for energy transition

2. Eligibility

  1. Experienced researchers / senior faculty members with a 15-year track record: Either apply individually or jointly with your research team
  2. Junior researchers with a minimum experience of two years after their PhD
  3. PhD candidates (graduate students or students to graduate before the end of the year)

3. How to apply?

Experienced or junior researchers or PhD candidates can upload a one-page project with a CV (ORCID number welcome); note that PhD candidates must give their student ID and provide a statement from their current university.
As you probably have colleagues working in your field of research in France, it is advised to have a well-defined proposal for a university department or a destination laboratory in your project.

4. How do I get answers to my application?

  1. You will get an answer to your application in under a month
  2. If selected, you will be asked to file a full proposal, and a final answer will be given within three months
  3. Administrative issues will be taken care of by our desk
  4. A package and support for practical issues related to the move will be provided upon your arrival in France

5. How do I finance my project as a researcher?

Amount of the grant:
  • Senior researcher: Up to 1.5M€ for 4 years grant (salary + 2 working staff + 2 students + working expenses) allowing to develop projects within and benefiting from the hosting laboratory environment
  • Junior researcher: up to 1M€ for 4 years grant (salary + 2 PhD students + working expenses) allowing to develop the project within and benefiting from the hosting laboratory environment

6. How do I get more details about my stay in France?

You will be able to stay in France at least for the duration of the grant, and longer if you are granted a permanent position. There is no restriction on your husband / wife working in France.
If you have children, note that French public schools are free, and the tuition fees of universities and “grandes écoles” are very low compared to the American system.
