- AOS: Ethics – broadly construed for a pluralistic department (with faculty working in and across Continental, Feminist, American, Analytic, Latin American and Latino/a Philosophies, and Philosophies of Race and Ethnicity).
- AOC: Open, the following areas preferred: African American; History of Philosophy; Feminist Epistemology (epistemic injustice); Environmental Philosophy; Philosophy of Science and Technology; Asian, Middle Eastern Philosophy; and Social/Political Philosophy.
The Department is pluralistic, with an expansive view of the discipline, and provides an intellectual climate conducive to multidisciplinary scholarship. We are looking for someone who has a broad philosophical orientation that encompasses a variety of perspectives and demonstrates a commitment and ability to work in a pluralistic environment. We want candidates who reach beyond moral theory to develop an engaged, embodied, culturally situated moral philosophy. Such a candidate would be interested in topics such as contemporary moral issues, environmental philosophy, feminist ethics, new research in moral psychology, and issues arising from gender and sexuality, race and racism, and economic inequality in a global context. We also seek candidates with a commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Expectations of teaching include introductory, middle-level, and advanced undergraduate courses, graduate teaching in the area of specialization, mentoring of graduate student research, and directing theses at the undergraduate and graduate level. The University of Oregon is on the academic quarter system, and the standard teaching load is presently five courses across three terms each year.
Undergraduate teaching experience, an appropriate record of research and publication, and Ph.D. are required. Ph.D. in hand is preferred at the time of application. Salary will be competitive depending on qualifications.
