Stipendiary Junior Research Fellowships in Gender Studies, King's College, Cambridge

King’s College invites applications from individuals who are completing or have completed a relevant doctorate for one or more four-year Junior Research Fellowship/s in interdisciplinary Gender Studies. Candidates may come from any disciplinary background but will be expected to propose future projects that engage with issues of gender in ways that transcend any individual discipline.
Human security, liberty, political voice, economic status, education, health, freedom of expression, access to markets and public spaces, institutional practices (for example) as well as all forms of interpersonal relations and representation, are fundamentally shaped by gender. The pace of technological development in the last twenty years has transformed human relations in every context – public, institutional, workplace, and private – raising old issues in heightened ways and creating issues not previously anticipated. All of this has made fresh methodological and theoretical approaches to understanding the place of gender in human behaviour and societies both possible and urgent. Yet it continues to be the case that much work on gender is hampered by disciplinary isolation. Those who pioneer more sensitive analysis of gendered representation in, for example, art or literature often work apart from those whose work lies in philosophy or international relations – while the very real implications of such relations within STEM subjects for the advancement of science are frequently studied by scholars who work apart from each of these.
The ideal candidate for these Junior Research Fellowships will have a strong background in a particular discipline within the Arts, Humanities, or Social Sciences but will be proposing to develop their research by engaging with work outside their own home discipline. There is great and varied interest in Gender Studies throughout the College community, from undergraduates through graduate students to the Fellowship. The successful candidate/s will be expected to engage broadly with the whole college community and with the University’s Centre for Gender Studies, which will provide a link into the wider University network of interested researchers.
A Junior Research Fellowship is a postdoctoral position tenable for up to 4 years. Applications are welcome from graduates of any university. Candidates will usually have completed their PhD, and must not have undertaken more than 2 years of postdoctoral work by 1st October 2017 (i.e. your PhD cannot have been granted before 30th September 2015).
The closing date for applications is 9.00 am on Thursday 15 September. Full details, including the method of application, are given on the King’s College website: http://www.kings.cam.ac.uk/research/junior-research-fellowships.html
King’s College follows an equal opportunities policy.
