Dear FEMMSS folks,
I want to bring this job opportunity to your attention. The Philosophy Department at Waterloo has lots of women faculty members, four of us do feminist research, we have lots of faculty who I consider to be feminist allies (including senior men), most of the faculty do research that is somehow engaged with other disciplines or with issues of significance to the public good broadly construed. Many of us in the department bring our lunch and chat over sandwiches in the lounge on a daily basis. There are lots of us here who take diversity and collegiality in the discipline very seriously.
Canadian universities have to give priority to Canadians. But, people who are not Canadians and are interested in the position SHOULD apply. We have faculty members who are not Canadians.
Also, the online version of the job ad forced the department to pick two AOS's. The two areas listed as AOS are more restrictive than we are considering. What really matters is that the candidate meets the general description of Applied Philosophy in the text of the ad, and that the candidate have an interest in our broad description of WS. There are many FEMMSS folks who would be a great fit for this position.
I am not on this search committee (we have enough feminists around that I don't have to be--yay), but I would be happy to answer any questions that you might have. I also encourage you to contact Dave DeVidi.
cheers,
Carla
