Environmental Justice and Social Change (Assistant Professor)

The Department of Geography at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Vancouver Campus invites applications for a tenure-track position with a specialization in environmental justice and social change at the level of Assistant Professor. This new position will join other recent hires in contributing to the department's growing Environment and Sustainability program. We welcome applicants focusing on issues that might include, but are not limited to, climate change, health, energy transitions, food and agriculture, and urban political ecology. We encourage candidates who engage with innovative and intersectional approaches (e.g., anti-racist, decolonial, feminist, Indigenous, queer). We also welcome candidates with commitments to public engagement and community-based research, and/or who are in conversation with the natural or computational sciences. Preference will be given to candidates who complement and expand on departmental strengths and who add intellectual diversity to the department. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence or have promise of excellence in research and have a strong commitment to teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and support a research program and contribute to undergraduate teaching in the Environment and Sustainability program including core courses. The appointment will be effective July 1, 2019. The closing date for applications is December 11, 2018. Applicants should have a Ph.D. or provide solid indication of imminent completion.
