This mid-career survey features more than forty complete looks from Guo Pei’s most iconic runways from 2006 to 2017. In her theatrical, extravagant creations, Guo Pei combines contemporary aesthetics, production methods and materials with ancient tradition, evoking Chinese history and mythology in her craft techniques, fabric selection and imagery. The exhibition provides a comprehensive overview of her evolution as a designer as well as her contribution to global fashion culture. Rife with symbolism, Guo Pei's exquisite oeuvre of immaculately crafted masterpieces evoke the decadence of China's historical dynasties and have secured her a place amongst the world's premier fashion designers. Revered for combining China's rich aesthetic tradition with contemporary sensibilities, she is the only Chinese designer who has been invited to join Paris' prestigious Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. For more than twenty years, she has dressed royalty, political elite and international influencers. Her show-stopping, magnificent creations make her a modern messenger of her cultural heritage. Guo Pei made her Paris Fashion Week debut in January 2016 to wide critical acclaim. She has been named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People and one of The Business of Fashion's 500 People Shaping the Global Fashion Industry. Bronwyn Cosgrave has edited and authored five critically acclaimed fashion history books, including Made for Each Other: Fashion and the Academy Awards and Vogue On: Coco Chanel. A former features editor of British Vogue, she has written on design and fashion for an international array of publications and websites, including Architectural Digest, CNN.com, Grazia, Harper's Bazaar, the Hollywood Reporter, Vanity Fair and Vogue.
