The Vancouver Women's Health Collective is looking for new members to join their Board of Directors

Board Member Candidates: Vancouver Women’s Health Collective 
 
The Vancouver Women’s Health Collective (VWHC) is a feminist non-profit women's organization whose mission is to value women's knowledge and to support one another to take charge of our own health. We provide a safe and welcoming environment for all self-identified women seeking health information and services, regardless of age, ethnicity, culture, religion, gender identity or expression, or sexual orientation. We are currently recruiting two new volunteer board members to help provide strategic leadership of the Vancouver Women’s Health Collective. The successful candidates must work from a feminist perspective and within a strong empowerment and community development framework.
  
Responsibilities of members of the Board of Directors include, but are not limited to: 
  • overseeing and contributing to strategic planning and organizational leadership;  
  • creation, management, and approving financial statements;
  • grant-based, event, and donation-based fundraising  
  • assisting with community relations and partnership development;  
  • providing guidance on program management and evaluation;  
  • Meeting 4 - 5 times a year, including annual Annual General Meeting 
Desired qualifications, skills and experience we seek in Board members are: 
  • a commitment to women’s health and the feminist movement; 
  • familiarity with the Downtown Eastside community or the desire to learn;   
  • interest in financial management (e.g. accounting) and fundraising
  • familiarity with governance model of board management
  • availability to attend board and other strategic meetings up to 5 times per year as well as virtual work (e.g. email/phone) and special events as required; 
  • strong organizational, relationship-building, and communication skills in English with other languages being an asset.  
  • knowledge of non-profit organizations, board governance, and operations or the desire to learn;  
  • ability to work as a member of a team.  
  • basic computer skills (i.e., Google Drive, Email, Skype, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) including working remotely in telecommunication environments or desire to learn  
Given the location and territory on which we are located and the communities we serve we would particularly welcome expressions of interest from women who self-identify as Indigenous (e.g. First Nations, Métis, Inuit) ancestry and/or women who live in the Downtown Eastside.  In terms of skills, we are prioritizing candidates with governance board, financial accounting, and fundraising experience and/or interest.
