  • Institute of Natutral Fibres and Medicinal Plants, Poznan, Poland

Abstract

Natural plants as a source of colors represent crops of great economic importance. Development of industry negatively influenced the elements of the biosphere, causing a systematic degradation of the natural environment. Plants, as organisms leading a sedentary lifestyle, in the process of evolution had to develop defense mechanisms allowing survival even in extreme conditions. Plants play an important role in remediation of contaminated land.
They not only produce and build as hemp plants humus layer in destroyed areas, but also reduce the impact of contaminants in soils. They pull heavy metals from the ground. Tree roots take in water and pollution from the ground. There are big potential application of the compounds found in dyeing trees and in various fields of science and economy. Natural dyes obtained from plants are being considered as an eco-solution and as eco-friendly dyes with natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Plant extracts contain tannins, flavonoids, saponins, essential oils, mucilage, vitamins, and many other valuable substances. They are a source of beautiful natural color.
