Dear Faculty Member,
We are writing to ask for your participation in a Canada-wide study of Sessional faculty employed by publicly-funded universities. The number of Sessional appointments has increased at most universities over the last decade, but remarkably little is known about these part-time or sessional instructors and their lived experience as teachers within the academy. We have attained ethics approval through the UBC Research Ethics Board for our study of Sessional Faculty, and the UBC Faculty Association has offered to distribute our Survey link. This survey has been distributed at twelve universities so far, and we would be honoured to have the opportunity to include UBC in this sample. We hope you will join us in the process.
Should you accept our invitation to participate in this groundbreaking study, please click on the following link:http://fluidsurveys.com/surveys/0220/our-faculty/ Please note that your anonymity is of key importance to this study and therefore your responses to our survey will remain anonymous throughout the study. Your participation is voluntary; you are under no obligation to complete the survey and if you choose to participate you may skip any question.
This study is conducted through the University of Victoria under the supervision of Dr. Tatiana Gounko, and coordinated by Cynthia Field of the University of Toronto. Information in this survey is collected as anonymous data and will only be linked to a given institution; the study will not identify any individual person or department within the institution, but may indicate a generic Faculty (i.e. Sciences, Arts, Humanities, Trades, etc.). Protecting your anonymity is of great importance to this research. At no time will any personally identifying information be published or presented.
If you would like to conduct the survey via telephone, set up an interview, or if you have any questions about the survey or research, please contact Project Coordinator Cynthia Field (cynthia.field@mail.utoronto.ca). More information is also available on the attachment to this message. Should you have any questions regarding your rights as a participant or have any concerns about how you have been treated as a participant please contact the Office of Research Ethics at the University of Victoria, Human Research Ethics, B202 Administrative Services Building, Office of Research Services, University of Victoria, PO Box 1700 STN CSC, Victoria, BC, Canada V8W 2Y2, at ethics@uvic.ca, or (250) 472-4545.
