The EU and Gender Equality: better off in, or out?

               http://www.lse.ac.uk/genderInstitute/events/eventsProfiles/201516/The-EU-and-Gender-Equality-better-off-in,-or-out.aspx

Monday June 13 | 6-8pm | Thai Theatre, New Academic Building*

The EU has been very important in influencing gender equality in the UK through Treaties,  Directives, programmes and policies relating to a range of policy areas, from employment to childcare services and, more recently, political representation and economic decision making. Generally, European policies are committed to gender equality, but many forms of gender inequality remain. Does this endurance of inequality reflect a failure of the EU and present an argument for leaving?  Or does it reflect the UK’s reluctance to fully implement EU measures - meaning that leaving the EU could only make matters worse? What would be the economic and employment impacts of leaving and how might these vary by gender and other dimensions of social difference?
To inform the voting on June 23rd, the six panellists will provide some insight and evidence on these economic, social and political questions.
