John Plotz is Professor and Chair of the English Department at Brandeis University. He is author of
The Crowd: British Literature and Public Politics (University of California Press, 2000) and
Portable Property: Victorian Culture on the Move (Princeton University Press, 2008). He is currently completing
Semi-Detached: The Aesthetics of Partial Absorption (forthcoming Princeton, 2016), and has begun work
on
a project on American and British literary Naturalism and its relation
to Darwin and nineteenth-century environmental thinking.
