DEADLINE 15 Jan 2016: Funded MA in Environmental Anthropology

  • Jessica Miller
    Keymaster
Funds are available at the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Saskatchewan, to support a competitive MA student beginning next September in Environmental Anthropology for thesis research on energy, environmental, and Indigenous issues in northern Alberta. Dr. Clint Westman is leading a SSHRC-funded, community-engaged research project looking at socio-cultural impacts, benefits, and consultation/negotiation processes of the oil, gas, and bitumen (oil/tar sands) industries with respect to Indigenous communities. This project will provide opportunities for students to carry out ethnographic fieldwork among affected communities in the extractive zone. Funding of at least C$15,000 per year will be provided to MA students over a two-year period (subject to satisfactory performance in the first year). In addition, support will be provided for fieldwork and conference expenses. Please contact clint.westman@usask.ca for more information, or see the department’s website http://www.usask.ca/cgsr/grad_programs/programs/ANTH.php. The deadline for completed applications is January 15, 2016.

Please contact me directly at clint.westman@usask.ca should you require more information, or feel free to forward this message to interested potential students.
