Right now, we have a chance to put an end to Northern Gateway once and for all

Dear Cheryl, Recently, Enbridge asked the National Energy Board (NEB) and the federal cabinet for a three-year extension for its Northern Gateway pipelines and tankers project. With Northern Gateway’s permits set to expire at the end of this year because it has missed mandatory deadlines, the company is making a last-ditch attempt to keep the project alive. Right now, we have a chance to put an end to Northern Gateway once and for all. The NEB is currently reviewing Enbridge’s application for an extension, and is seeking public input until June 27, 2016 on whether or not to grant the request. The Trudeau cabinet will then be responsible for rejecting or approving the NEB’s decision, so it’s important that we keep up the pressure to deny the extension and finally put an end to Northern Gateway. This is a life or death moment for Enbridge – if the extension is denied, Northern Gateway’s permits will expire and the project will be off the table for good. Yinka Dene Alliance First Nations have opposed the extension request, and we’re asking you to do the same by writing a letter to federal decision-makers to tell them that Northern Gateway doesn’t deserve another chance.
