Full-time public historian of science and/or technology, IEEE History Center

The IEEE History Center at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, seeks a full-time public historian of science and/or technology to join its team. The incumbent will participate in the full range of the Center's activities, but the initial focus will be on helping to develop history of technology curriculum for use in the high-school history classroom.

Job Summary:

The overall purpose of this position is to be a part of professional historian team of the IEEE’s History Center, whose mission is to preserve and make known the history of IEEE, its members, their industries and professions, and the related technologies. In addition to generally participating in the Center’s public history of technology initiatives and supporting the various programs as assigned by the History Center Senior Director (managing and/or participating in IEEE’s oral history program; managing and/or participating in institutional history projects; contributing content to the Engineering & Technology History Wiki; managing and/or contributing content to the History Center’s publication program; and organizing and/or contributing content to conferences), the incumbent in this position is primarily responsible for contributing content and curriculum development to the History Center’s pre-university REACH Program which prepares history of technology curricular material for use in the high-school history classroom. The role reports to the Senior Director of the History Center, and will be responsible for managing relationships with appropriate volunteers, contractors, consultants and stakeholders, as well as occasionally general oversight of student interns. This position works under minimal supervision and is authorized to approve program expenditures within limits determined by the History Center.
