Chapter 12 – Ginkgo biloba Extracts in Neurological Disorders Therapy: Clinical Trials

Chapter 12 – Ginkgo biloba Extracts in Neurological Disorders Therapy: Clinical Trials

Abstract

Aging is the major risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. The standard Gingko biloba leaf extract EGb 761 has been given routinely as a prescription drug in many countries for Alzheimer’s dementia. Numerous clinical data have demonstrated possible improvement of dementia by EGb 761 in neurodegenerative patients. Polypotent and multitarget actions of EGb 761 may underlie its clinical efficacy. EGb 761 exhibits a good side-effect profile in clinical studies. Therefore, we discuss EGb 761 in neurological disorders therapy in this chapter.
