Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Philosophy. ABD candidates will be considered. If ABD, candidates will be required to complete the doctoral degree by August 2017. Normal teaching duties include four courses per semester at the undergraduate level, primarily in the areas of specialization and competence. Candidates will be expected to have an active research program and are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence in Philosophy. Candidates are required to have experience teaching, or demonstrated willingness to develop, online/hybrid courses.
In addition to contributing to teaching in the programmatic core, the person hired for this position will contribute to meeting the department’s increasing demand for its philosophy of science, and science and values-related courses, as well as its courses serving the expanding STEM disciplines and professional/pre-professional programs on campus like health services and public policy.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the scholarly life of the discipline; to contribute to the life of the Department, College, University, and regional community; to engage in student advising and supervising undergraduate research; to contribute to the University’s Center for Practical and Professional Ethics; to participate in the systems of shared governance of the Department and the University; and to be able to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse backgrounds.
