LEAP! Entrepreneurs Pitching Social Enterpise Ideas at Sunshine Coast Event

November 25, 2016

In the dark of winter, come join Community Futures Sunshine Coast and SFU Community Econmic Development for a celebration of the latest LEAP! cohort of social entrepreneurs.
The LEAP! Winter Barn Raising event will take place on Dec. 13 in Sechelt, 6:00 – 8:30 p.m at Seaside Centre. Tickets are $20, and all proceeds will directly benefit the entrepreneurs launching a business that night.
LEAP! (Local Entrepreneurship Accelerator Program) is an eight week accelerator program for social entrepreneurs in rural B.C. Using a lean start-up model, LEAP! prepares small groups of entrepreneurs to launch and expand local businesses in their communities.
The LEAP! program is offered in partnership with community-based organizations. We are pleased to partner again with Community Futures Sunshine Coast who have recruited seven committed local entrepreneurs who are excited about pitching their new business ideas to the community.
Meet our LEAP! entrepreneurs
Chelsea Allen, a certified holistic nutritionist, is making healthy and high qualty juices and crackers. (Seafoam Organic Juice & Smoothies)
Allison Fawcus is growing lavender and selling a variety of lavender-infused products. (Sunshine Coast Lavender)
Paula Howley, wants to grow and refine her business teaching kids public speaking skills. (Head Start Public Speaking For Kids)
Brian Merkoski is making honey-sweetened chocolates and nut butters. (Artisans Way Organics/ Arriba Raw)
Nicole Smith who has a passionate interest in marine life and has volunteered for Vancouver Aquarium, wants to start a marine tour company.
Laurie Lesk, organizer of Pride on the Coast, wants to develop a media-sponsored magazine for the event that will go to raise money for queer youth.
Jenna Sali, in response to there being no place to buy bras and underwear on the Sunshine Coast, wants to create a body positive place to buy women’s undergarments.
Come and Join Us!
The LEAP! Winter Barnraiser will be like a really friendly dragon's den, where participants can practice pitching their ideas to the community. It promises to be a fun-filled and social evening. We hope to see you there.
Purchase tickets here, and visit the event Facebook page for more information.

Why is LEAP! Important?
LEAP! helps build a community's entrepreneurial ecosystem, directly driving economic growth and strengthening the local economy. Communities with strong local economies are more resilient, have a lower carbon footprint, and are better insulated against global economic ups and downs. Find out more on the LEAP! website.
