Abstract

Analysis of literary data and local reports have allowed us to have a look at traditional phytotherapy in the United States and Canada with plants from the regions of North America. Inspection of ethnobotanical, pharmacological and clinical data of some drugs used in the treatment of ailments of the respiratory tract makes it possible to give additional information to European phytotherapists for their therapeutic practice. In this article, traditional plants that can help in the treatment of respiratory diseases will be shown: Seneca snakeroot, Curly-top gumweed, Labrador tea, Liquorice root and Mountain balm (Holy herb). © Springer 2005.
