Job ─ Researcher in Residence; RCC, Munich (Germany)

The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (RCC) is pleased to announce the creation of one or more Researcher in Residence positions starting at the earliest in January 2017. These positions are designed for postdocs or inter-disciplinary scholars who have a project that falls within the RCC’s research field of Environment and Society.

The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (RCC) is an international, interdisciplinary center for research and education in the environmental humanities and social sciences. The RCC was founded in 2009 as a joint initiative of Munich’s Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and the Deutsches Museum, and it is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Researcher in Residence positions will be remunerated for up to nine months; the salary is designed to finance the applicant’s residence at the RCC during this period to work exclusively on the development of the research project and grant
application. The position is designed with the procurement of one of the following (or similar) grants in mind:

– ERC Starting Grants
– DFG Emmy Noether Independent Junior Research Groups
– BMBF Junior Research Groups
– Sofja Kovalevskaja Awards of the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation
– Volkswagen “Freigeist” Fellowships
– Major Grants of the Leverhulme Trust
– DFG Eigene Stelle Grants

The RCC in collaboration with LMU’s research division can provide logistical and personnel support with the preparation of the grant proposal, including English
language editing. Successful grants will be administered by the RCC as host institution.

Successful candidates for these positions will hold a PhD or equivalent and have demonstrable research experience, a track record of academic excellence, and, if
applying for a major grant, familiarity with writing grant proposals and collaborative research projects. Selection will take place on the basis of an original research idea and a detailed project description.

Researchers in Residence at the RCC will be expected to work in-house and actively participate in the intellectual life of the center. They will receive a monthly stipend based on tariff contracts for public service (level E13) and paid vacation days (2,5 days per month). Working hours are flexible, and the RCC offers a family-friendly working environment. If necessary, the RCC can also assist with applying for work permits and visas.

As successful candidates will be state employees, they are required to have German health insurance and to make contributions to the German tax and social welfare system.
