The use of medicinal plants in veterinary medicine: Rescuing the popular knowledge (Article)
[A utilização de plantas medicinais em medicina veterinária: Um resgate do saber popular]
Abstract
This research, developed in the municipality of Patos, Paraíba State, Brazil, aimed at the investigation into the popular knowledge and the utilization of medicinal plants in the treatment of diseases in the domestic animals. The sample consisted of forty interviewees, randomly selected, who have used phytotherapies in routine practices. Questionnaires were employed for building a database. The results revealed that the knowledge about the advantages over of the phytotherapics utilization are the followings: natural, effective, and healthy nature of it, besides its low cost. The utilization of the medicinal plants against diseases constitutes a vast research field, which might generate change of habits, the man's re-approach to the nature and the valorisation and rescue of the popular knowledge.
