CRN38's new IRC will 'exist' only for purposes of the 2017 LSA international conference in Mexico City. However, the LSA is encouraging us to invite those who are interested in the focus of the new IRC to join our CRN38 program for 2016. This will enable us to begin the process of developing our work and collaborations in the leadup to the Mexico City conference in 2017. In the meantime, the LSA filed a grant application with the US National Science Foundation for funding to bring speakers from low and medium income countries to Mexico City, so there may be some CRN38/IRC funding for travel and expenses regarding Mexico city. The list of low and medium income countries is on the World Bank list of economies (July 2015).
This email is a call for submission of paper proposals by anyone who might be able to come to the New Orleans conference in June 2016. The deadline for New Orleans paper proposals is *midnight Oct. 25, US eastern time.*
The rest of this email provides instructions on how to file the paper proposal for the New Orleans conference --
Begin by registering on the LSA website. Then, start with this page to
obtain information on some of the details relating to submitting paper
proposals --
http://www.lawandsociety.org/N
This page starts you on the mechanical process of making your proposal
on the electronic system --
http://www.lawandsociety.org/N
Our IRC does not have a number, but it is being organized by CRN38
(Collaborative Research Network 'International sociolegal feminisms') --
so as a minimum, try to fit 'CRN38' into your proposal somewhere. I
think there is a specific place to list it on the webpage. And if there
is a connection with taxation, also list CRN31, another LSA CRN that supported our proposal to form a new IRC.
Here are the technical instructions:
To submit a proposal:
-- Start at the "Accessing the Submission System - login
instructions
<http://www.lawandsociety.org/
-- After you've logged in, click the green "Create Submission"
button, under "Submissions," on the lower right of the screen.
-- On the next page, below the box for your "Title," your
"Submission type" should be "Paper Submission," and the CRN number
is 38 -- you can also list CRN number 31 if your work relates to
taxation in any way.
-- After that, you will complete the submission by clicking on the
blue buttons for "2. Participant(s)," "3. Proposal," "4. Keywords,"
"5. Preview," and "6. Finalize," and entering the relevant information.
** Note that Law & Society created a _*NEW REQUIREMENT THIS YEAR*_:
You must include a 6000-character description of your topic in "3.
Proposal," which replaces the previous requirement of submitting a
short abstract. [ In some documents, this requirement is described
as a 1000 -word MINIMUM -- not maximum. Law & Society's explanation
of this new policy is here
<http://www.lawandsociety.org/
-- Be sure to hit "save" before leaving each page.
After the deadline for proposals has passed, the CRN38 and CRN31
organizers will organize the papers into full sessions. For your
proposal to be included among the panels that we will create, _*you
need to do one extra thing*_: When you have finished your
submission, you will receive an email with the subject line: "LSA
2016 - Paper Submission has been received" (or something similar).
Please forward that email to me, so that I will know that you have
submitted a proposal for our panels -- and, even if the LSA head
office does not bring it to our attention, we can ask them for it.
Your paper need not yet be written, and the only requirement (other
than submitting that 6000-character proposal through the submission
system) is that you have at least something (an outline, a first
draft, etc.) that you can send to your session chair by about 30
days before the meetings (which means early May).
Note also that each participant is limited to*ONE* participation as
a Paper Presenter OR a Roundtable Participant. You will, however, be
able to act as a chair/discussant in as many sessions as you like.
A few weeks after the papers have been submitted, we will assign
chair/discussants, so please let us know in a separate email if you
want to serve in that combined role.
Let me know if you have any questions, but -- if they are tech
questions -- email the LSA help people but be sure to copy me too so
I can track the process!
all the best,
Kathleen
