Job description

The Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher or junior assistant professor in the field of environmental epidemiology. The research will focus on evaluating potential health effects from residential exposure to pesticides. Embedded in a large national study, a large amount of data regarding pesticide exposure and health data are currently being collected. In particular, pesticides have been associated with a range of health effects in pesticide applicators, the risks from environmental exposures of people living close to treated fields, however, remains unclear. The project is performed in collaboration with the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). The successful candidate will investigate association between pesticide exposures and health effects such as birth outcomes, adult mortality as well as self-reported health and well-being.
The project is a collaboration between the environmental epidemiology division of the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS), and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).

Requirements

The selected candidate will have, or will soon have (must have the degree by the time of appointment), a doctoral degree in epidemiology, statistics, environmental health or a closely-related field. Candidates with an interest in interdisciplinary work are encouraged to apply. Candidates with good communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to work both independently and within collaborative, multidisciplinary teams are preferred, as are organizational and time management skills.

Conditions of employment

The employment is initially for one year. After a positive evaluation, the appointment will be prolonged by another three years. Salary ranges between € 2.532 and € 4.654,- gross per month dependent upon knowledge and experience (salary scale 10, scale 11). Secondary benefits based on the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities are excellent in general and include e.g. a pension scheme, flexible employment conditions and salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8,3% per year.
