ABSTRACT
Mexican markets are an important resource for many health seeking Mexicans. These markets are of relevance to Indians and Mestizos alike. In this study we documented 74v medicinal plants of a market in the city of Matías Romero (Oaxaca) and identified 67 of them. The quality of eleven samples of Matricaria recutita L. from Matías Romero and five other cities is compared highlighting major quality problems esp. on markets removed from the centres of production. Further research relating to the quality control of medicinal plants on such markets and on the potential for further phytochemical and pharmacological research are also adressed
